WRITE TO THE WELSH ASSEMBLY
Why not write to the Welsh Assembly Government to express your concern about the funding they provide to the National Trust. The Trust receives substantial funding from them in the form of CADW, objective 1 and the Countryside Commission for Wales.
CADW themselves have also experienced problems with the National Trust at another of their local properties in Wrecsam, Chirk Castle. For more details, see the following link:

The following is an example of a letter already submitted for their consideration:
The Welsh Assembly Government is granting funds to the “National Trust for places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty” which is being used for profit – generating residential development of Greenfield sites. Among many other similar sites, I can refer you specifically to Erddig, Wrecsam. Here the National Trust intend developing , on a green field site, an “urban village” of 223 houses, a small proportion of which will be described vaguely as “affordable”. This was a late amendment to the original planning application as a reluctant sop to local needs, and to facilitate the granting of the outline planning submission.
These houses will increase the population of the adjacent typical close-knit former mining village of Rhostyllen by as much as 40%, with consequent stress upon essential medical, educational and other services. This development is bound to affect the character of this area. The fields affected were donated by the late Squire Yorke for the permanent enjoyment of the local population, and 90% of the locals are opposed to the development, but none are allowed to express their opinions because of being banned from using the local village hall for meetings. The National Trust is selling off freely donated land at 100% profit, so why do they need grants from the Welsh Assembly Government?
It is also anticipated that 223 houses will generate at least 330 cars, with the associated increased requirement for traffic control and pollution regulation.
I now respectfully ask the Welsh Assembly Government to cease providing funds to an alleged charity which seems to be changing its remit to property developer. This is not how I wish my taxes to be used, there are many real charities, too many to enumerate, in Wales that could make proper charitable use of grant funding.
In conclusion I respect you to “call in “this planning application so that the entire sordid mess can be exposed to public scrutiny.
In anticipation of your urgent consideration of the matters detailed above, may I convey my thanks.
